“Dunărea de Jos” University of Galați has a large experience in environmental studies and environmental impact factor investigations. In this sense, our university has developed a series of applied research projects in the field of national and international environmental protection domain.

For example, in order to monitor the collection of household waste were conducted pilot projects with municipalities of Galati and Braila. The research results and the optimizing algorithm were published in the ISI indexed scientific journal with significantly impact factor (Environmental and Engineering Management Journal). Also in the field of environmental studies and environmental impact factors assessment, in our university a series of research projects were developed in collaboration with various companies.

In the domain of monitoring forest areas, in the Centre of Excellence for Environment from our University, it has been developed a project that led to a functional system which evaluate in real time the vegetation and respectively the health level of forests.

In the same domain of environmental protection and research could be included the project with title “Industrial pollution and its impact over the Danube Delta Biosphere Reservation”. The aim of this research program was to provide an overall analysis of the current situation regarding the influence of industrial activities, namely the accumulation of heavy metals in aquatic ecosystems of the Delta of the Danube. In the same time, and additional objective was to evaluate the correlations between the sediment and the ability to accumulate heavy metals depending on the type of vegetation. In this study were published a series of 5 scientific articles in ISI journals. The general objectives for this project were to determine the accumulation of heavy metals in sediment, water and substrate plant in the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve. Basing on these investigations, were made determinations of mercury concentrations in the tissue of fish with no commercial value and the Danube Delta Biosphere Reservation. In the same time were made determinations of bioaccumulation of plankton in aquatic complexes representative of the Danube Delta Biosphere Reservation.
